The Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction (DPI) has named De Pere High School a Platinum award winner—the highest level of recognition-- in the Wisconsin School Health/Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Award program.
DPI sponsors the annual program that recognizes schools for proactively enhancing wellness policies, health services, physical education and other physical activity programs, nutrition services, family and community involvement and health promotion for staff.
De Pere Physical Education Teacher Eric Bieszk, who led a cross-functional team that prepared the award application, says the award reflects De Pere’s philosophy of building and supporting healthy lifestyles to last a lifetime.
“The award reflects so many different dimensions of our school and community,” he notes. “It’s a culture we strive to promote, because we know a healthy environment leads to better learning. Engagement in after-school activities, comprehensive mental health support, the balanced food choices we offer students and staff in our building—those and many more components are all evaluated in this process.”
