De Pere Middle School is excited to announce the return of its live TEDxDePereMiddleSchool event on Friday, May 20, 8:25 am - 11:15 am. This event is one of the only TEDx events to exclusively feature 7th and 8th grade student speakers. In the spirit of TED’s “Ideas Worth Spreading”, the TEDx program allows anyone to organize a local, TED-like event.
TEDxDePereMiddleSchool will take place in the Middle School auditeria and will feature an incredible line-up of student speakers on topics ranging from the benefits of writer’s block to the lessons we can learn from obscure myths and legends. The event will also be livestreamed at TEDxDePereMiddleSchool.com.
“The TEDx format is an invaluable learning tool for students," said Josh Gauthier, one of the organizers of TEDxDePereMiddleSchool. “The research, planning and practice causes them to think about verbal communication in a way different from a traditional school speech assignment. They must be more concise, more focused and really let their passion for the topic shine through. The experience can be applied in so many ways going forward, from job interviews to college applications."
The independently produced event, operated under a license from TED, is organized by Donna Young and Josh Gauthier, educators at De Pere Middle School, and is aimed at providing an opportunity for students to share their passions, ideas and experiences.
Tickets are free. Those who wish to attend can claim a ticket at www.TEDxDePereMiddleSchool.com
