Superintendent of Schools
The Unified School District of De Pere, Wisconsin, seeks a Superintendent to serve approximately 500 staff and 4,300 students in 6 facilities and manage a $60 million budget. The position begins July 2022. 
Responsible to the Board of Education, the superintendent provides leadership to the staff, student body, parents, and community. Communicates a vision of high expectations for the continual improvement of the education program of the District in accordance with the Board's mission, philosophies, policies, and procedures. Establishes an environment conducive to creativity, motivated performance and continual learning. Attracts, retains, and develops a talented and dedicated staff, challenging them with a vision and recognizing successes in bringing the vision to life. Guides the development and evaluation of the curriculum. Manages the facilities and budget.
About the Unified School District of De Pere
The Unified School District of De Pere combines progress and tradition to enrich the learning experiences of our students each day. Located on the east bank of the Fox River in historic De Pere, Wisconsin, our district attendance boundaries incorporate the City of De Pere east of the Fox River and parts of six suburban and rural towns. Through open enrollment, we also attract students from neighboring northeast Wisconsin school districts including Green Bay, which is 5 miles north of De Pere.  
The District continues to experience residential growth leading to increased enrollment at all building levels. This growth is primarily centered in areas outside the City of De Pere municipal boundaries. An Advisory Committee chartered by the School Board in 2018, and subsequent analyses, resulted in the redrawing of elementary school attendance boundaries 2019. While this provided interim relief from crowded conditions at some elementary schools, it is anticipated that additional facility decisions related to capacity at the intermediate, middle and high school buildings will be required in the next 2-5 years.  
Academic Performance
The District is consistently ranked as Exceeding or Significantly Exceeding Expectations by the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction in its annual School District Accountability Report Card.
Financial Position
Independent annual audits show the District has, and continues to maintain a strong financial position.
Major Areas of Accountability
  • Serves as the executive officer of the Board of Education, and shall be charged with responsibility for executing the policies of the Board and the rules and regulations of the State Department of Public Instruction in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin and the Constitution of the United States.
  • Serves as the primary source of communication and public relations to the public for the district.
  • Provides leadership/management to staff in the District.
  • Promotes curriculum development and evaluation in the district.
  • Ensures the efficient operation and administration of the school system.
  • Performs other duties or exercises other authority as may be required or conferred upon him or her by law or action of the Board.
Common Performance Standards
Communicates with students, parents, staff and members of the community in a positive, courteous, and respectful way. Follows the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the District. Keeps abreast of current educational trends/issues through professional development experiences.  The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.  
Cognitive Requirements
The position requires significant cognitive effort to plan and carry out duties. Decisions and actions frequently must occur with minimal time for reflection. Situations faced are often complex and involve issues that may impact broad-based public opinion and subsequently public support for the district's mission. Solutions require integration of information and application of considerable independent judgment utilizing both experience and foresight. Communicating a vision is critical to the successful execution of the mission of the district.  
Education/Work Experience Requirements
The preferred candidate for this position will have an advanced degree in educational administration, preferably a doctorate, a minimum of 3 years teaching experience, and a minimum of 7 years of administration experience. A District Administrator License is required.
