About... » ESSER III

What is ESSER III?

In March 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) became federal law, providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). This legislation provides school districts with one-time grant money to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools, and address the educational, social, and emotional impact of the pandemic on our students.

In De Pere, our ESSER III grant is $891,097.  Twenty percent of our grant ($178,219) must be used to address pandemic-related learning loss by implementing “evidence-based interventions.”

Safe Return to In-Person Instruction Plan

In addition, districts must develop a "Safe Return to In-Person Instruction Plan" that explains how schools will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other school staff; the extent to which it has adopted COVID-19 mitigation policies or practices; and a description of policies or practices based on the CDC's safety recommendations and local health department input. When ESSER III legislation was passed, many schools in the country were still fully virtual, while others, like De Pere, had partly or fully transitioned back to in-person learning. Our Unified School District of De Pere Safe Return To In-Person Instruction Plan reflects actions we have taken, and those which will continue to support in-person instruction in the District.
