Board Selects Dr. Christopher Thompson As Next Superintendent


Thompson earned his doctorate in education at Edgewood College, Madison. Additionally, he has a master’s degree in education focused on administrative leadership and supervision from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wis.

David A. Youngquist, Board of Education President, expresses appreciation for the many people who participated in the 9 month superintendent search process. 

“I and my fellow board members are grateful for the many hours devoted by our staff, families, students and community members who participated in surveys and candidate forums, as well as providing direct communication to us throughout the Superintendent search process.” 

Youngquist also commends Superintendent Villarruel for his leadership during his 21 year tenure.

“Under Ben’s direction, De Pere has performed exceptionally well in terms of student achievement, professional staff development, financial stability, growth management and more. We sincerely appreciate his stewardship of our school community over the past two decades.”  

Board Names Superintendent Search Finalists, Schedules Community Forums

The Unified School District of De Pere Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of three finalists to interview for the position of District Superintendent. Last week, the Board held closed executive sessions for initial candidate interviews and narrowed the slate to three finalists:
 
  • Dr. Margo Schmitt, Director of Grants, Professional Development, Social Emotional Learning, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Barrington School District 220, Barrington, Illinois
  • Mr. Chad Buboltz, Director of Learning and Leadership for Secondary Schools, Neenah Joint School District, Neenah, Wis.
  • Dr. Chris Thompson, District Administrator, Rosholt School District, Rosholt, Wis.
 
As part of the selection process, the three finalists will participate in virtual candidate forums with Unified School District of De Pere families, students, staff and community members November 12, 22 and 23. These sessions, conducted via Zoom, will provide an opportunity to meet each candidate, ask questions and provide feedback to the Board of Education. All interested families, students and community members are invited to participate.

The forums will be moderated by representatives from Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, an education consulting firm hired by the Board in March 2021 to assist with the Superintendent search.
Following the forums, the Board will interview each finalist again. The Board hopes to select a candidate in late November with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022. 
Leadership Profile and Survey Summary
 
Based on feedback from District stakeholders, search consultants HYA Associates presented a Superintendent Leadership Profile to the Board of Education on Aug. 16. The profile will be used as the recruiting process continues. In addition, HYA shared the results of its stakeholder focus groups, interviews and public survey.

Focus Groups and Community Survey Completed

Our Superintendent search consultant HYA conducted several focus groups via Zoom, and provided an online community survey, to help develop a Superintendent Leadership profile. The profile will be used by the School Board to screen candidates during the selection process. Thank you to all who participated. Results will be posted soon.
