critical maintenance, safety & security referendum
On Monday, August 5, 2024, the USDD Board of Education approved placing a $22 million Critical Maintenance, Safety & Security referendum on the November 5, 2024, ballot.
This action is consistent with the recommendation of the Community Facilities Task Force (CFTF), and votes taken previously by the Board, directing the District to pursue an Operational (financial) Referendum which was approved by voters in April 2024, followed by a Critical Maintenance (facilities) Referendum to address urgent maintenance, safety and security upgrades at all of six of our schools.
If approved, the November 5 referendum will only fund:
- Upgrades to several buildings to improve entrance and exit safety control
- Repair or replacement of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems that are failing
- Repair/replacement of leaking roofs
- ADA accessibility improvements
- Repair/replacement of leaking windows, doors and walls
The November 5 referendum does not include any new construction, additions to buildings or new buildings.
It does not include the Task Force’s recommendation to construct a new high school. Decisions on accommodating projected growth in the District will occur in the future, with additional staff and citizen input.
More details on the November referendum will be shared via in-person and virtual town hall meetings; on this webpage; in our Hi-Light newsletter; via our social media channels; and direct mailings to all residents of the District. We strongly encourage all residents to take advantage of every opportunity to learn more about the critical facilities needs included in the November referendum.
