The Buildings and Grounds Department is responsible for cleaning and maintaining seven buildings: three elementary schools; Foxview Intermediate School; De Pere Middle School; De Pere High School; and the adjacent District Office. The Department also maintains a small auxiliary storage building between Dickinson Elementary and the High School. 

Overall, the custodial staff has over 940,000 square feet of interior space to maintain. Our seven building sites and outdoor space covers over 140 acres, including an outdoor football, track and field stadium; softball and baseball fields; soccer fields; tennis courts and playgrounds.

November 2024 referendum - critical maintenance, safety and security upgrades

On November 5, 2024, District voters approved a facilities referendum to fund repairs and upgrades at all six USDD schools. The $22 million referendum included money for:

  • Upgrades to several buildings to improve entrance and exit safety 
  • Repair or replacement of failing HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Repair/replacement of leaking roofs and broken, cracked concrete
  • ADA accessibility improvements including pavement replacement/repair
  • Repair/replacement of leaking windows, doors and walls

The November 5 referendum did not include any additions to buildings or new buildings.

What's Happening During The Summer Of 2026?

  • Altmayer Elementary - Installation of LED lighting; reconstruction of the front drive lane, bus lot, and sidewalks;  improvements to storm water drainage around the building perimeter
  • Dickinson Elementary - Patching of unit ventilators, repair/replacement of asphalt
  • Heritage Elementary - Installation of a new generator; installation of a new boiler and chiller; repair of emergency lighting system; removal of the glycol tank; final installation of LED lighting
  • Foxview Intermediate - Installation of a new boiler; final installation of a new fire alarm system
  • De Pere Middle School - Installation of LED lighting; installation of a new generator; installation of a new fire alarm system; reconstruction of the drive lane, bus lot (including lighting), sidewalk; installation of a new boiler; removal of the glycol tank 
  • De Pere High School - Reconstruction of the front drive lane; removal of the front entrance steps; installation of a chiller for the Community Room; reconstruction of sidewalk around the building
  • New chillers are being installed at De Pere High School and De Pere Middle School in the fall of 2026. A new boiler will be added to De Pere High School in the fall as well.

During the summer of 2025, the first phase of improvements were completed including new or repaired roofs; ADA accessibility upgrades; replacement of leaking windows, doors and walls at several buildings.
