The Unified School District of De Pere School Nutrition Department is committed to serving healthy kid-friendly meals in accordance with USDA standards. The Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act has brought about a number of changes to the National School Lunch Program including:
- Students are required to choose at least 1/2 cup of fruit and or vegetable as part of a reimbursable lunch
- Schools must offer different "sub groups" of vegetables each week including dark green, red/orange, beans/legumes
- The majority of grains offered must whole grain rich
- Calorie limits have been set based on age group
Elementary School Lunch
Dickinson, Altmayer, and Heritage Elementary, for the most part, all follow the same monthly lunch menu. Elementary lunches can provide up to 650 calories. Each day there is a planned hot entrée, but students also have the option of a cold sandwich in place of the entrée. There is a variety of fruits and vegetables available each day, as well.
Foxview School Lunch
Menus planned for 5th and 6th graders provide between 600 and 650 calories. There are one or two entrees available daily as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables. The Foxview grab n' go bar features a variety of prepared sandwich/wrap/salad options and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Students may choose a fruit and yogurt parfait in place of the sandwich. During the winter months soup is also offered. Skim chocolate or 1% white milk are available daily on both lines.
Middle/High School Lunch
Middle School and High School students have a choice of 2-3 entrees daily as well as a variety of fruit and vegetable options. Middle School menus are planned to have between 600 and 700 calories, while High School lunches can contain between 750 and 850 calories. Middle School and High School lunch includes one entrée and up to three sides. Any part of the school lunch can be purchased separate at à la carte price. Other à la carte options include baked chips, Rice Krispie Treats, muffins, 100% juice, zero calorie sports drinks, and plain and flavored water.
A grab n' go bar is also available at the Middle School that features a variety of prepared sandwich/wrap/salad options and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Students may choose a fruit and yogurt parfait in place of the sandwich. Skim chocolate and or 1% white milk are available daily on both lines.
The High School lunch program also includes the Bird's Nest Café, a grab n' go café located in the cafeteria. This space offers students a full school lunch including fresh made salads, sandwiches, soup and make your own subs. À la carte items are available in the café.
