Inclement Weather
The Unified School District of De Pere monitors weather conditions to help ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff during periods of extreme temperatures.
During cold weather, outdoor activities will be limited when the actual temperature or wind chill is -10°F or colder, as reported by the National Weather Service, recognizing that wind chill reflects how cold conditions feel on exposed skin and can increase the risk of cold-related injury.
During hot weather, outdoor activities will be limited when the heat index reaches the “Very Hot” or “Extremely Hot” range—105°F or higher. The heat index accounts for both air temperature and relative humidity and represents how hot conditions feel to the body. At these levels, prolonged exposure and physical activity can increase the risk of heat-related illness.
The District will consider current and forecasted conditions, the duration and intensity of outdoor activities, and the availability of shade, hydration, and other protective measures when determining appropriate modifications to outdoor activities.
