k-6 Grading Practices

Our district has used a standards-based format for our report cards for several years. Standards-based report cards provide a comprehensive picture of students’ academic performance by identifying each student’s specific areas of strength as well as areas where additional work may be needed. It is important to take note of the increased rigor of our state adopted standards and understand that proficiency in them will require a new level of advanced, quality work.
The link to each grade level report card can be found below. (Please note: As you view the report cards, keep in mind that they reflect what students should know and be able to do by the end of the year. Not all standards will be marked each quarter/trimester.)

Please take a few moments to look over the grade level report cards and read the Teacher/Parent Guide. This guide provides clarification for the information that is found on the report card. It contains an overview of the philosophy and purpose of the report cards along with explanations of how to use and interpret them.

Middle School Grading Practices

Grading practices at De Pere Middle School focus on student learning and provide feedback to students, parents, and teachers. District students receive letter grades starting in 7th grade and continue through grade 12.

High School Grading Practices

At De Pere High School, a grade represents a clear and accurate summary of a student’s current academic achievement – what a student knows and can demonstrate – in accordance with curriculum standards. De Pere High School’s achievement standards are based on the Wisconsin State Standards and the Common Core State Standards.

We have a responsibility to provide all students in our district with the same rigorous curriculum. Teachers use grading to identify the strengths and weaknesses of students. This information is used by teachers to plan high quality, meaningful instruction for all students. Students use information from grading feedback to reflect on, evaluate their progress, and to set goals. We expect that all students in our district will grow and improve toward proficiency in the standards.
